I-CBT for OCD
Inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy (I-CBT) is a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on addressing dysfunctional inferences and beliefs that contribute to psychological distress. Rather than solely targeting overt behaviors and thoughts, I-CBT delves deeper into the underlying inferences and assumptions that drive maladaptive patterns. The core premise is that it is not the external situation itself, but rather the individual's inferences and interpretations about that situation, that lead to problematic emotions and behaviors. By helping clients identify and challenge these inferential thought processes, I-CBT aims to restructure the dysfunctional beliefs and encourage more rational, adaptive ways of thinking.
This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, and other conditions where distorted inferences play a central role. Through a collaborative therapeutic process, I-CBT empowers clients to develop greater self-awareness and flexible, evidence-based thinking patterns.
